whales singing new songs

whales have always been such beautiful, mysterious creatures for me.  I can't imagine the terror of seeing one out at sea if you didn't know what it was.  But the truth, that they are gentle giants, is so lovely.  Gentle giants are my favorite.
Apparently, male blue whales songs have been slowly getting less loud and deeper over the last few years.  Supposedly it is because their sizes are getting bigger (or they want to sound bigger) so their mating calls are changing, but no one has come up with a definitive answer. It is happening with blue whales worldwide, so they are listening to each other and being influenced by each other.  It's like a cultural phenomenon!  What a strange thing, for their songs to change.

I think Matthew Perry may have finally found a character that isn't Chandler Bing that he can make work!  First Courtney Cox in Cougar Town and now this.  Miracles.
MP plays a sarcastic (obvs) manager? or something of the Sunshine Center, your basic arena for any and all events.  He carries his disinterestedness very well, I almost think this character is much closer to his real personality than even Chandler was.

Andrea Anders traveled over from the remains of "Better Off Ted", which I was very excited to see!  She played almost the same character, but oh well, I love that character!

Allison Janney is one of those faces that is so familiar but hard to place.  I recognize her from random spots in Juno and 10 Things I Hate About You.  She's so talented, and I love that she's playing the spacey and ridiculous owner of the Center.  From the previews, I thought she was going to be MP's assistant or something.

Ok, so don't hate me, but I didn't recognize any of the other characters except for Hurley!!  (Which was amazing, but I don't know if he'll be a regular?)  So, I'm not going to comment on them, yet.  I am happy to say that I had quite a few LOL moments, which I always demand from my comedies, so I will keep watching for a while.
Props to Perry, I guess he wrote, produced, blah, blah.  Basically, the whole thing is his.  Here's his interview with Jon Stewart on the Daily Show.  He did pretty well...looks old though.

The Bachelor: Final 6 Doppelgangers

     Chantal O. and Jennifer Ehle.

Em and a young Dolly Parton.

Honestly, I can never even see Ashley H's face.  Just an incredibly out-dated hairstyle.

Shawntel and Mary Lynn Rajskub

I'll admit this one was a bit harder.  All I can ever think of when I see Michelle is a snake or a lizard because of how many times she licks her lips.  Ugh.  Michelle and Olivia de Havilland.

Britt and Rapunzel.  Both have ridiculously bad hair.

So there are our final six!  Who will Tom Cruise...I mean Brad Womack choose?

(Probably the one who looks most like Katie Holmes)

what i wish to wear today

I've been reading all day about the French ban of the burqa (or burkha), and I've found it fascinating.  I kept switching back and forth between sides.  If women want to wear the burqa as a religious expression, I'd be the last person wanting to take that right from them.  But it seems that burqas are overwhelmingly forced upon women by their husbands, in which case I am profoundly against it.
Islam, Judaism, and Christianity all have a history of head-covering, often being a sign of holiness.  I think it is beautiful to express what you believe, as long as you are not forced into an expression that is not your own.
I think it is a thing to celebrate that French-Muslim women, who could not before, can now (well, since September 2010) show their faces, hands, and feet!

(Disclaimer: I'm pretty positive this outfit is not up to Shar'iah law or anything, its just my interpretation.)
